Congratulations to Hospice of the Valley's expert Dementia Team! A newly published report in Alzheimer's & Dementia showcases how the nonprofit agency is helping raise the bar for dementia care across Arizona. The team developed a specialized training program in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Health Services and Alzheimer's Association Arizona. Hospice of the Valley offers the program completely free of charge and has trained thousands of frontline memory care professionals across the state.
In addition to increasing their dementia care knowledge, participants reported feeling far better equipped to provide high-quality, compassionate care. The findings demonstrate how education and collaboration can strengthen Arizona's dementia care workforce and improve support for individuals and families living with dementia.
The report is titled “Building a dementia-capable workforce: Implementation and evaluation of a state-mandated dementia training program for memory care staff.” It was authored by Dementia Team members Sara Crance, Dr. Gillian Hamilton, Calli Carlson and Kellie Garrett, along with Tory Roberg from Alzheimer's Association Arizona.
